We started from scratch in November 2013 with an entirely new approach to the layout. Multiple designs were submitted and suggestions came from many of the members. The new layout includes a harbor, logging camp, Milwaukee style train station, multiple industrial complexes and mid-size city complete with trolley line. On one end is the freight yard with engine house, coaling station, turntable and room for multiple consists. There is a large staging area for the members to set up their trains without interfering with operations. Members have been busily at work building structures, wiring the many switches and installing control panels at strategic locations. Our 1st goal was to have smooth operating conditions, so a lot of time and effort went into ensuring the tracks were laid out properly, that switches (controlled by Tortoise switch machines) operated correctly and even the longest passenger cars and steam engines could traverse the layout without a hitch.
